| | | | Church players - Question
Sign in to disble this ad
I have joined the local church gospel group and i was on my first rehearsal today. I have a P with GHS flats 45-105 and i feelt that the sound was week and embarrassing. I wonder what strings do you gospel players use? I'm torn between what sort of strings, gauge and brand i should use.
Thanks in advance! |

In its defense, my Skjold also sounds great with nickel Sunbeams.

With the exception of one bass where I tried out the DR Black Beauties which I really liked. I sold that bass to a TB'er here (my modded OLP MM3).

That can make or break it. If you're talking about what's known as 'Black' Gospel then those flats won't get the job done 99% of the time. Get yourself either some DR fatbeams or Deanmarkley Blue Steels, dial your mids back JUST a touch, boost your bass a little bit, and boost your trebble and much as you fell works for you..lol |

Lots of gospel players also play 5's. I've noticed some churches (especially old timers with high ceilings and choir lofts) are a lot different room to cover than most gigs.
Most gospel music I hear has a lot of slap & pop in it; which I can't do!

| | | | I used the house bass amp, an old Peavey head and cab which sounded ok. The church is not big, like 2-300 seats and about 100 people most sundays. We play a mix of swedish praise music and american modern gospel like Kirk Franklin and Fred Hammond.
About my flats, when i play outside the church i also feel that these are not my cup of tea so i need a new set of strings. Especially now when i need that slap sound. This summer i'm letting a bass builder do some modification to my bass body like adding double j pups instead of a p pickup. Oh and i nice maple top too! Gonna look sweeet! |
