Circle K Strings...Did I get sent the wrong set?

Sign in to disble this ad
I got my strings today and was about to put them on when I noticed that taper doesn't start till about 8-9 inches past my tuning peg. Is this normal for a 34-35 set? I went and double checked my order to make sure I ordered the right set and sure enough it says 34-35 balanced. Picture below in the facebook album.

The standard set should measure 36,75" from ball to taper.

After installing them and tuning up and playing for about half an hour...I don't care if I got the wrong set. These strings are awesome the even tension across all strings make them feel so good. A light touch is all you need. The E string is massive even for 90 gauge. Wow, I don't think I'll buy any other brand ever. Wow, wow, wow.

That's what happens when you try Circle K strings.

It sounds like you were sent an elongated set. Your strings are thin enough that it shouldn't matter too much, but I'd definitely send CK an email to let them know. The tuner-end taper is very important with larger gauges.

No way is that 8 or 9 inches. More like 1 or 2.

Looks like the taper starts around the end of his headstock, so I'd say that's more than an inch or two.

I seem to recall that uncut Circle K strings are freakishly long when new, even the standard sets that I use. Although it's been so ling since I;ve had to change them that I forget! I just bend 'em (old habit) cut 'em and string 'em!

Yep. I felt that way at first and still feel the same way. They are the ONLY roundwound I will even consider using now.

So you've got 34+1+2+8=45 inches from ball to taper? Wow big string for a 43" scale, must be for one of Skip's new secret ultrascale basses
See http://circlekstrings.com/CKSIMAGES/CircleKspecs.pdf. The big one is 42" ball to taper, it might be one of those.

No, just a nickel/hybrid roundwound.
