Circle K Strings on Fretless

Sign in to disble this ad
Does anyone use them on their fretless bass? If so do you see a significant amount of wear? I've got a fretless neck for my spector on order, it's unfinished rosewood. I've been looking forward to putting on a set of Circle K's but am a little leery of roundwounds.

Thanks for any input!

I didn't see any more wear than I would with any other rounds. I have a maple neck with a poly coat on my maple fretless Jazz and I use the Circle K Standard Balanced 112. I have some soundclips somewhere if you want to hear them. I totally prefer the bright sound of rounds on a fretless. It's amazing.

As long as you aren't bending the strings or fretting/plucking excessively hard, there's no reason rounds should leave any impressions on the fretboard that would affect functionality.

EDIT: Don't mind the **** poor intonation or *****y playing:

I've got them on my fretless... no significant wear beyond any of the other rounds I use on it.

I've used Circle K's on my fretless instruments. Love the sound.

Rounds will cause more wear on a fretless instrument than flats. Just how it is. However... just how much wear is completely dependent on your fretting hand technique. If you have a light touch the wear will be slight. If you have a heavy handed technique the wear will be more.

Circle K's don't have more or less wear potential than any other roundwound string, but they do sound really good

Awesome thanks for all the feedback guys. I'll order a set when the new neck comes in. I play with a light touch so it shouldn't be too bad.
