47 pounds is an .085 A, tight but not excessive.

Hmmm so even though the chart says 35-45 what can you actually get away with?

Skip at CKS recommends exceeding 30 pounds (extra-light) for the best tone, but this depends on gauge, thinner strings and plains have a lower practical minimum. As for an upper limit contact Skip at the techinfo address, it depends on the gauge. The tension chart has values up to 60 pounds for the thicker strings ... perhaps this is the average break tension for those? I'm guessing you'll be fine up to 50 pounds (medium-heavy) on the thicker strings. The thin wounds have thin cores and have much lower break tensions.

I'm wondering if the highest tension value shown for a string is the break tension ... ?

That's a good question - I don't know either.

I do know that I've used my strings at tensions up around 50 lbs for years with no issues, so 60 lbs for the thicker strings could be a reasonable break point.

Some other brands have sets going up to 60 pounds and beyond, but i think CKs have thinner cores for flexibility and are not designed for super heavy tension.

Hmm, I'll guess I'll go with the .174 then, it sits at an even 35 lbs with the rest of the set at close tension
