Cirrus+Rotosound=?

I have a peavey cirrus 5er that is in need of new strings...badly. I've yet to buy new strings since I got it about three years ago...and even then I bought it used.

Because of that I have no idea what strings are on it. I like the action alot (its the main reason i bought it) but i kind of want a more aggressive tone. I dont want to lose the flexibility of the strings.

Anyways, I have some really light rotosounds on my marcus miller and they kill. I want to see how they are on the cirrus but i dont know how much that extra inch scale would affect it. any thoughts?

has anyone put rotosounds on their cirrus? and suggestions?
also what are you using on your cirrus and why?

thanks

The extra inch in the scale I think will just make a little more tension in the strings, so it should be similar sonically. I can be no help of what to use on the Cirrus though, so probably a useless post!

The extra inch of scale tightens up strings just a bit. I have found that I can use one gauge lower strings and they feel the same as my regular gauge strings. I think light gauge strings go very well on Cirrus basses.

I have light Boomers on my Cirrus, and they are pretty bright. I can only imagine Rotos would be searing.

I just threw some DR Fat Beams on my Cirrus 4. All I can say is "WOW" these strings sound amazing. They awoke the sleeping giant in my bass. The lows are fat and punchy and the highs are bright and clear. I went for the 45/105 set. I'm a DR convert.

I use Dean Markley SR2000's on all my basses including my 35" scale, active Peavey 5 string.

Brightest, clangiest, longest lasting strings I've used in 40+ years of playing. I wouldn't go back to Rotosounds for several reasons.

I've only used the original Cirrus strings (religiously for awhile). I really liked the Slinky's (green ones?). And I think I had XL's on it for awhile.

But since I joined a new band with messed up tunings, I've gone to singles of rather large gauges. So it's been awhile since I've used 'regular' strings. Pro Steels for awhile and now SIT power steels.

I don't mind nickels on the cirrus, as we all know it's plenty bright on it's own. I just wanted to make sure I had tons of zing without trying so I have been sticking to steels.

I don't know how well lighter strings would work as I've always enjoyed heavier gauges as I really beat on mine.

I have a Cirrus 5 coming soon and I eagerly await its arrival. I have been comtemplating which strings to put on it when it arrives. I will be using the bass for a smooth jazz/neo-soul band. I usually use DR Lo-Riders on my basses with rounds, I love their low-mid growl and higher tension. But I'm afraid they'll be too aggressive for the music I will be playing. I'm basically looking for a string that has enough edge for slapping, but will almost sound like a flatwound string when being played fingerstyle. Also, I would like a moderate to high tension string, I dislike loose feeling strings.

I don't know if such a string exists, but I've been looking at strings like DR Sunbeams and Fatbeams, or La Bella Deep Talkin' Rounds. Do you think the Fatbeams on your Cirrus fit what I'm after? Thanks, and sorry for the derail.
