Classical guitar tone

Sign in to disble this ad
I am looking for a set of strings that can get close to the dark and "wide" sound of a nylon strung classical guitar for electric bass. Nylon tapewounds seem to be a logical choice, but I have never used them before and am not sure what to look for brand/size wise.

I have searched but did not find anything definitive. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Sam.

i had labellas on my bass for about a decade... and then i joined a band that required a different type of tone.... but i was very happy with them... i was trying to get the most organic, non-sterile sound i could out of my crappy hondo rickenbacker copy.

they did require some widening of the nut slots, but i never regretted it. so comfortable on the fingertips too...

A band I played guitar in had a bassist that used some kind of black nylon strings. He thought they were great. I thought they were muddy, slow response and just plain dull.

That's just my taste, they may be what your looking for but these were straight nylon. Not wrapped.

I'm looking for strings for electric bass with only magnetic pickups, so straight nylong would not work.

But I will check out those Labella strings.

These are the strings you need http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...ngs?sku=102810
Roto Trubass , these have that sound that you described , Other tapewounds will work fine as well but Roto tapes are one of the darkest sounding tapes. Probably best to avoid the fender tapes though as they are somewhat bright and clanky sounding.
