Cleaning coated strings... (Elixirs)

I have a band contest next week and I want my tone to kill. My Iby BTB 405 has one year old Elixirs and it sounds like a$$.

I know should buy new strings, but I can't afford that now. Is there a way to clean coated strings, cuz I can't boil them...

soak em in denatured alcohol overnight, i don't expect that it'll affect the coating.

I used ethanol 85%... 8 hours.
The coating is still the same. The sound too.
I learned that Elixirs can't be revived.

Well, they are on now for 10 months. Time to change...

Just find some spare change and get some new strings. Borrow it if you have to. Seriously.
