Question Cleaning phosphor bronze strings?

Sign in to disble this ad
Greetings,

I have an acoustic/electric bass (Warwick Alien) and use phos bronze strings. The set that came on the bass were OK to boil and played them to death. I now have a set of DR "Rare" bronze strings and boiling kinda tarnished them.

The more I play the more tarnish comes off. The strings sound great so it is purely cosmetic. I have not tried denatured alcohol yet.

Does anyone have a technique??

I never clean my Phospher bronze strings on my ABG's. I just leave them on forever and while they look dull over time, I found they mellow a bit and have a bit warmer tone.

I must agree . . .

They do sound better with age. I will just play them until the get flat spots.

On my Steel & Nickel strings I clean them with Isopryl alcohol.
I wet the corner of a towel,not soaking wet,just good-n-damp
and wrap it around the string and run it up & down a few times on each string.
