I wouldn't use anything that is a liquid or anything like that... I would think if there is any alcohol or anything in the solution it could dry the nylon core, weaken the string, and cause it to break prematurely.
There are a few different "cleaners" available that dont require or use a solution. Or just use a microfiber cloth and wipe them down.
