| Cleartones: Waaaay too bright for me

Just put a set of cleartones on my Modulus. I was looking for a more mellow tone and thought I would try some coated strings. I couldn't find on cleartone's packaging nor on their website what exactly these strings were (nickel or steel or what???) but after a few web searches I saw where they nickel plated steels. (I don't know, they are quite bright) So even though cleartones profess to sound like uncoated strings (they do IMHO) I was counting on the nickel plating and the fact they are coated would result in a mellower tone.
They definitely seem to be very well made strings and if I was looking for brightness I would probably like these. I tend to leave strings on for a very long time to mellow out and the DR lo beams I took off are probably about nine months old. I might put them back on. The Cleartones have been on for only about five minutes but I don't like them. Before I put the old DRs back on I will track down some DR Bootzillas.
Cleartones say they have the brightness of an un coated string and in my opinion they do. |
