Hey brothers and sisters,

I' m ordering a Clement bass very soon. To all the players who owns a Tom Clement bass. What strings do you use?

I' m going to select an ebony fretboard. And thinking of not using rounds. I want it to really sings. Would a tapewound or flats deliver that mwaaahh?

thanks,

Fred

I have a Clement and I got it with the La Bella Deep Talkin' flatwounds, which I highly recommend. Lots of muah and upright-like thickness. Plus, it's easy on your fretboard and fingers. The La Bellas on ebony might look like you don't have any strings, but that might look cool too. I got a bloodwood board.

Thanks John for the reply. Tom said he usually uses DR high beams or La Bella tapewounds. Maybe I' ll use La Bella flats too. That' s okay if it looks like I don' t have string on my ebony. I use flats on my other fretless too.

Black string on a black board. Man I am going to be in trouble test driving that one.

I'm a huge fan of Ken Smith Compressors on fretless, or GHS Pressurewound which are very similar. They sound more roundwound than flat. I'd not want an upright tone on a fretless, I have a real upright for that.
