Coated DR's differences

Sign in to disble this ad
Do to the Red Devils being a cheaper price, I went with them. Not bad. First time i used a coated string. But is there differences in there caoted strings. I heard the Bootzilla'a are brighter and the black beauties seem brighter (at least on bass tasters) than the red's. Has anyone experienced the changes amongst strings that were coated from DR? Being the reds are cheaper maybe they are not really the same or maybe the reds are not as good as far as brightness than the others. Just want to throw this out and see if you had experienced the differences if there is.

I'm all about DR's but I've only tried the BB's and they (coated strings) just aren't bright enough for me....

This is a good question though. I'd also like to see if there's a difference in tone with the different varieties of the coated strings.

I've used the Black Beauties and Peacock Blues, and I haven't noticed any difference between the two.

Thats interesting. Wonder why the reds are cheaper? Have you experienced the Bootzilla's? I think they use the Low riders as the others use the Hi Beams. Reason why im asking is I was searching for the bootzilla's and they are even more than the rest. Interesting as to what you said.

The Bootzillas may be different from the differently coloured strings. I put some Peacock Blues on my old Ibanez and they seem pretty similar to the Hi-Beams only less bright sounding and they feel coated.

I've never tried the Bootzillas or the Reds. I think the Bootzillas are coated differently - maybe that accounts for the price? I can't explain why the Reds are cheaper.

btw a friend of mine had the reds for guitar, they lasted about a week before they started to peal. his bb's lasted months.

but event he most expensive guitar strings are like $10 so it doesnt really matter for them, lucky bastards

I love the coated DR sound becuase you don't get that overly bright sound when you first put them on and there tone is really consistent. They don't really die or at leat mine havn't.

All the DR Extra Life colored strings are the same. They're just different colors, but the strings under the coating are the same. The Bootzillas are different strings altogether, though. They're quite a bit growlier than standard DR hi-beams. I just strung up with Black Beauties, and so far they seem to be pretty similar to hi-beams to my ears.

I've used the red devils and peacock blue ones (I have blue ones on my 4 string at present) and find them really good strings - I fancy trying the green ones but draw the line at pink

I also use optima gold strings on my fretless
