We've got a poll for the basic type, but what about the composition? Nickel and all-stainless are very different, as we all know.

Vote all-stainless.

Don't get me wrong, I love nickel-plated steel, but you just can't get the same brightness from them that you get from all-stainless.

I really liked Roto 66 stainless on my Schecter, but they just didn't sound right on my SX P. Still looking for the perfect string for that one. Tried D'Addario XL (nickel), Roto 77 (monel flats), and Elixir (coated steel). The D'Addario XLs sounded okay, but they were extra heavy (.055, .075, .090, and .110) and the G string was uncomfortably tight. I might give them another shot in a ligher gauge.

I'm thinking I'll end up with nickel when all is said and done, cuase stainless just seems a bit too bright with the maple neck.

I like the sound of stainless steel but they make my fingers bleed so I have been using D'Addario XLs 165 which are nickel plated steel strings.

I use stainless steel on my four string fret but then I use nickel on my six string fretless. I love em both.
