Question A Comprehensive Guide To String Tension?

Sign in to disble this ad
OK - I looked and didn't see what I want to ask in the FAQ - maybe it's there but I didn't see it.

Anyway - is there any sort of chart for the various strings and the tension they need for standard tuning?

ROTOS v FENDER v D's v EB, etc?

I'm dealing with a very sore left elbow and I can only factor that it is the heavy flats I am using.

D'Addario's Tension Chart

Circle K's Tension Chart

The data on D'Addario strings is more comprehensive as they offer more variety, but it is also very consistent with mine.

Keep in mind that this will address the physical tension strictly, and not how tight a string feels - a huge difference in this point.

What you can take from this is that within a pretty tight margin of error, this is all the data you need as a .105 is a .105 no matter who makes it.

I would love to see manufacturers provide this as a service/resource for their customers. That said there is no reason that the 'cut and weigh' method can't be utilized for some industrious soul to do this on their own.
