Compression windings

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all,

So I got a set of Sunbeams 40/60/80/100, strung up the Warwick and am giving them the rehearsal / gig / aging tryout.

So far they sound great.

I'm curious, can someone explain exactly what compression winding is on the DR's (or any string for that matter)

I think it's compressing the outer wrap to an oval shape but am not sure if true and / or why.

Any takers?

It explains on the back of the box. The strings are actually bigger before the compression winding i.e. 105 actually is 108 before winding. As far as specifics as to what they actually do? Haven't a clue.
