concerned about using pro steeles. HELP!

Sign in to disble this ad
i have been awaiting some nickle wounds like i always use but instead i got d'addario pro steeles, at first i was annoyed at how defined the texture of the string was compared to my warn out nicles, buttt as i played more i got used to it and now i love the "piano" like tone. MY QUESTION IS... will the steels do noticable damage to the frets in say like 3 months?????????????????????

depends on your technique really.

DR makes some stainless strings that are easier on the frets or board if you are concerned.

I've used stainless rounds mostly exclusive since the mid 80s and even having the same gig bass for almost 10 years... I've never needed a fret job. My fretlesses usually have stainless rounds too.

I started using D'Addario ProSteel after being recommend by a few tone fanatics. I agree they do feel a bit different at first, but do sound great. I have not noticed an unusual wear and I play this bass a lot.

I've been using ProSteels since they were introduced (a friend at D'addario hooked me up with a set knowing my love for the discontinued Prisms) on all my fretted basses for a few years now, and have never noticed any unusual wear 'n tear. I'm guessing unless you're a heavy-handed slapper, it's not going to happen.

Enjoy the Piano tone, and let the slightly rough texture help build up your calluses.
