Copper wound strings sound better

Sign in to disble this ad
I bought an old Ibanez RG Bass from a friend and it came with copper wound strings. When i changed battery for active electronics , and plugged in and played...I was blown away by the Rich, Fat tone from the strings. Problem was there were only 3...and when i changed to Nickel wound, it sounded great, but not as GREAT as the copper wound strings.

Has anyone else noticed this? ...And wheres a good place to order copper wound strings.

Sure they weren't phosphorous bronze? They're acoustic guitar strings.

Or Maybe Maxima Golds... with a 24K gold coating.

Or maybe they're just nicely broken in and you don't like the sound of nefw strings?

Someone does indeed make copperwound strings, I can't remember who, though. However, if they really were copperwound, they probably would have been tarnished, so there's a chance you could have been playing Maximas. Or maybe bronze-coated strings.

If you want to know exactly what kind of string they were, snap a picture of them (and preferably of the ball end and the tuner end) and put it up here. Someone's bound to recognize it.

EDIT: If they sounded "rich and fat", they probably weren't copperwound. I'm guessing phosphor bronze.
