| Cost-effective alternative to DR Long Necks?

Alright, folks, here's my dilemma. My current bass has a pretty large body (Traben Kore), and is strung through the body. Because of this, I can't use most brands of roundwound strings that taper down by the nut. More often than not, especially on the E-string, it tapers too soon and screws up the action.
The only strings that I have tried so far that don't have this result are DR Long Necks. I've tried DR Lo-Riders as well, and that didn't solve the problem. Only problem is, the Long Necks are $45 a pop at GC, and I'd much rather change strings slightly more often than shell out that much at a time. What are some comparable-quality roundwound (stainless steel or nickel) strings that are either designed to fit very long necks or do not taper quite as much?
