I picked up a set of D'Addario Chromes for my Fender Deluxe Active Jazz bass a few ago and when they first went on I really liked them. Now they're far too mellow/warm for my taste. I tried out D'Addario Nickel XLs, but those are way too bright. Anyone have a recomendation on what I should try out next? Something a bit brighter than Chromes would be cool.
Thanks for your help! |

hehe.
Try on some DRs and let them wear for a while until they mellow out.

| | | | How long did you leave the XL Nickelwound strings on? I use the Chromes on a few P-Basses and the XL Nickelwounds on a few P & Jazz Basses....I leave the XL's on a few months and they mellow out nice. |

| | | | I love my Rotosound 77LD flats on my Marcus Miller 4. Granted theyve been on for a week but as of now I really love them (the E is pretty growly). this is my second time trying flats and these were way better than the fender flats I tried.

| | | | I've heard nothing positive about the d'addario half rounds, so I'm kind of reluctant to try those out. I'll definitely look at those Rotosounds and some other groundwound/half rounds though... any other suggestions for those? I vaguely remember hearing something about GHS having good half wounds.. I think... |

The RS77LEs (Heavy Gauge Jazz Flats) are VERY bright but have a lot of growl, warmth and response. However they lose the super brightness quickly but still retain a lot of highmids.
However, if youre one of those Roundwound types, I'd suggest the Rotosound Swingbass set (RS66) excellent growly string and used by many of the top names in bass (Geddy Lee, Jaco, John Entwistle, Billy Sheehan, etc)
