Covert BEAD to EADG?????

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an ESP 4-string b-500 bass that came stock with 130-70 strings meant for BEAD tuning but I have always tuned it EADG for the past 5 months since I bought it. Is this a bad idea? I did a truss adjustment and it sounds fine but the higher strings do sound a bit muted and not as crisp. So I decided to just buy 105-45 strings and install them on this bass. there is some looseness in the saddles and nut, not that much with these new strings. Should I go ahead and install these strings with no adjustments or do I need to take it to the shop?

Hi, erodus

A new nut should be installed and a setup, that You can obviously do Yourself, wouldn't hurt either.

Cutting a new nut isn't really that hard, but requires some tools (files mostly).

Install them and see how they do. If you get rattles, then put a new nut on.
