Custom Length Strings

I’m trying to locate a set of custom strings for a 4-string bass I’m building - its basically a copy of a Ritter Jupiter. The winding length is approximately 42”-43” from ball to nut. Any suggestions, aside, obviously, from Ritter strings?

They aren't out there - and you may be hard pressed to get someone to make them as you would be asking them to wind a string that would just barely make it to your tuning machines.

I suspect based on your request that you are trying for a speaking length of 41.5" to 42" - have you looked into upright strings? Spirocore TIs are essentially a rock string on an upright format.

I went to Tomastik's site. Having trouble locating the TI's - would you be so kind as to send me the link? Same with the LaBella's. Thx.

Thx for your continued patience! From your link, there are several to choose from - any preference? Also, I'm guessing that I need a 4/4 string (as opposed to 3/4).

$172 per set???

I'd suggest investing in two of the cheapest single G strings as they are the least expensive - one 3/4 and one 4/4 - to see which is right. My thinking is 3/4 but I cannot be certain of that.

When you know the proper length you can invest in the appropriate set.

Yes, TIs are really that spendy. It's one of the reasons I wanted to find info on the La Bella steel/wound orchestrals as they are $50 or so less expensive.

The saga continues....

I got a response this morning from Neil Silverman from Newtone Strings, in the UK. Apparently, they can accommodate what I'm looking for, at the scale/length as well! Have you ever heard of them? Maybe you'll end up doing business with him as well!?

I just can't see spending that kind of $$ for upright strings, so I've been toying around with some other options: a) cut off the tail piece, so it would more resemble Ritter's "Seal" model, or consider using piano wire (not my first choice by any means.)

However, Newtone, gives me hope! I'll keep you posted, if you're interested...
