D-G-C-F Strings?

Sign in to disble this ad
Any suggestions on a set/brand/size for D-G-C-F (whole bass down-tuned a full step) tuning?

Right now I've got EB Hybrids (110-50) which are 'meh' at best.

I"ve actually gotten good results with EB's (in a pinch) but Circle K's are my go-to strings right now, after being a DR user exclusively the last 10+ years.

DR Lo Riders will do that, though if you don't wanna custom order.

This is my favorite topic on Talkbass..
La Bella makes a set specifically designed for DGCF tuning. I used them for years before switching to 5-string, and they are awesome. I put them on several basses that had been tuned standard, and they intonated perfectly with no truss rod or action adjustments required. They are the best choice for DGCF, hands down.
And, here they are:
http://www.juststrings.com/lab-m70.html
Contrary to what the Just Strings page says, the gauges are .054-.075-.090-.111.

Oh, I totally dig EB's. They're all I use on my Stingray. I just wasn't liking 'em on an Epi-bird, drop tuned.

And Dave, since you're a 5-Stringer now, you probably wanna part with one of those Reverends now, right?!?!!

If you like the idea of equal tension on each string then this set from Circle K Strings.

4 String Set - Balanced Standard 112
.112 .084 .061 .043

Sets like 50-110, 55-110 or 55-115 have the lowest string significantly looser than the others and / or excessively tight higher strings.

Heh. My original Reverend 4-string just sits in the case now, but I'll never get rid of it.
Reverend just introduced five new bass models at NAMM.

Let me know how these work out for you. We tune a half step down and I use the bass boomers 50-115 and they work perfectly. Now I have a 5 string and I'm looking for a heavy set for it.

Can someone help me find a detuned 6 string set?

A-D-G-C-F-A#? Taper-wound if possible.

Thanks, -Luke

Circle K Strings sell sets for any amount of detuning. The sets are designed to have roughly equal tension on each string. They're taperwound but may not work strung through the body due to a short tapered section. Perhaps this one?:

6 String Set - Balanced Standard 150
.150 .112 .084 .061 .043 .031

The gauge options are here: circlekstrings standard-balanced-6-strings

Thanks for the input. I was looking at Circle K and saw all the sets listed and didn't really know where to begin. I think I have an idea now though. Thanks, -Luke
