D'adarrio Chromes Flatwound questions

Sign in to disble this ad
Hellow fellow bassists. I just put a set of D'adarrio flatwound chromes on my Fender American Precision, and I am having trouble getting the E string to have low enough action due to the string through bridge that comes on the American Standard Fender Basses. I have the bridge adjustments all the way lowered and it is still too high on the E strings upper frets. Does anyone else have this problem with their American Fender Standard Basses. What should I do. I Also have to Shave about a half an inch of the blue silk wrap off my dadarrio chromes for them to fit on past the nut right, as the silk goes past the nut into the first postion. due to the string thru bridge option. Do Fender Flatwounds Fit Better on the American Standard Basses. What do you guys do to remedy this problem? Any suggestions comments welcome

It sounds like you're running long scale strings "thru body", when you need the super longs.

First, if you haven't bent up the strings from the break angle going through the body, then I would top load them (through the bridge). I couldn't wait to run through body when I got mine, but after a few months, some nasty overtones started to develop. I won't get into it here, but flatwound construction and mechanics don't get along real well with angles.

Second, you'll probably need to adjust the truss rod if the strings are higher tension than what was on there before.
