Sign in to disble this ad
Can anyone tell me if a D'Addario EXL160-5 135 Long Scale tuned down to A (from B)

1. sounds good and clear
2. is tight enough for normal play
3. is also good for slapping

and whats the overall feeling of tension?

According to D'Addario themselves, a .145 B string is required to match the tension of a .105 E. Considering you're tuning down a tone, it's going to be a bit soft. Check out their tension chart on the website.

1. That's subjective. You are however always going to get more clarity and punch out of a tighter string.
2. If you use a pick, you're going to have little to no problems. If you fingerstyle, you're going to have to adjust your touch to something much MUCH lighter.
3. Oh yeah! Lighter tensioned strings - in my opinion - excel at slapping! (Yes, lighter TENSIONED, not lighter gauged)

This coming from someone who used to tune ADGCF on his BTB555 with 40-55-70-95-130.

id say go for the 145. i have tuned ADGCF with a 130 and hated the tention and rattle. but i am a fingerstyle player with a pick its not as bad.
