D'Addario Chrome Flats 100 or 105

Sign in to disble this ad
I am going to put D'Addario Chrome Flats on my P-bass.

My question is what is the difference between 50-105 (ECB82) and the 45-100 (ECB81).
What sound difference will I achieve between the two?
What feel difference as far as finger feel? (I dont play with a pick)
Any neck issues with one or the other?
Any preferences? and why?

My P-Bass has a Maple Fretboard, Would the Chromes work out good or should I be looking at DR High Beam Flats?

The Chromes are already very stiff feeling. The 50-105 set is extremely tense.

I've always used the ECB81 and it's not too noticeably different from rounds, feel wise.

I love Chromes, used them on just about everything, maple and rosewood. They're great, go fo rit.

I like LaBella Flats on my maple board P. I down tuned a set of 50-105 EB flats to D on the same bass. Sounds good but have not had it in a band setting yet.

Just put 50-105 chrome Flats on my P-Bass, originally had 45-100 rounds. Wow, I got the sound I was looking for. Noticebly more thuddy, and a great sounding punch. Very suprised how much the flats changed my sound for the better in my opinion. Very nice and smooth feel. I probably wont go back to rounds on my P. Very happy with the chromes flats.

+1 on the 50-105s

I've got them on my P and P special and they knock your head off.

I've used both the light gauge and medium gauge Chromes. Actually I've noticed a difference in sound. But the difference is not directly related to the strings. The mediums are noticeably stiffer, and for some reason I tend to pluck them a tad harder than the lights.... probably because I feel as though I can.... they're stiffer, they can take it sort of thing. It's all about feel. I prefer mediums on my Precision, but I prefer lights on my Jazz. Go figure!
