Is there a huge difference in sound between these 2?

TI's are VERY low-tension, which is fine for some basses & not others. Chromes are a tad higher than others, but closer to average. I like both but lean towards Chromes. I have too many funky necks that can't deal w/TI's.

Not bad, just average. The low mids from the TI's just cut. TI's may seem mellow but they roar at loud rock volumes. I would give them a try if I were you.

I like lower tension strings Like DR Hi Beams and Sunbeams so the TI's feel great to me. Feels better on my left and right hand. I have tried them on some my basses and they feel a little tighter or more loose depending on which one. Also, the lightest set of Chromes is pretty similar to the TI's.

The main difference that I found in the strings is that the TIs were voiced more in the lower mids and the Chromes were in the higher mids. Both had great fundamentals. I think the TIs were more "growly" too. Hope this helps some. |

I will say for the Chromes, I liked the feel of their finish a little more. |

| | | | When I first started using flats on my Ricks I used Rotosound flats. The first few sets sounded great. But then I starting getting bad sets that either were either bad to begin with, or went south very quickly. I switched to Chromes and have been very happy since. |

The only flat that I seem to really like of the three is the TIs. The others are just sort of bland. They sound good doing some stuff. Have very low finger noise but they seem to lack harmonic richness for lack of a better description. I do not like the way the EB and the Labellas sound on the E and A that much. I prefer how they sound on the D and G. In the mix, I never feel that the TIs lack anything. Although by themselves they sound sort of dark. |

The Chrome flats have just a bit brighter sound over their lifetime. The TI's just dont get to the brightness of the chromes, but they do have an open almost woody nasily sound all of their own. I like them both, and will always have one of each in the tool bag. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
