So I'm back experimenting with flats as I do sometimes, and I did a quick clip of what they're sounding like with one of my amps set dirty, as I use them.

I lose a good deal of bite and aggressiveness, but I get a bit more of a fuzzy character to the crunch which I like, and the sustain is still very workable for me. Check it out:

Nothing special, just an Orange Tiny Terror. For my style that I use in my own band I use primarily low wattage tube amps.

One way to get a good snarly fuzz tone with flats and a tube amp is to use a treble booster, I use an Analogman Bass Beano Boost. Here it is, with the flats, into the amp which is set pretty clean:

Treble booster is maxed out, slamming the amp very hard.
