D'Addario Chromes Installed

Intial impressions are pretty surprising. I figured for sure that I would notice the "flat" part more with my plucking hand, but I definitely feel it more in my fretting hand. Very nice to have that smoothness under my fingers tips for slides, and the slides are super clean sounding.

Sound difference is not quite as dramatic as I figured it would be either. It not rounds but again just not as big a difference as I was guessing.

Granted I am still setting the action/intonation so I haven't spent a long time with them.

Bad news: I cut the E-string too short Anyone know where to get a 100 single? I did find one on Amazon for $17.45, but I'd like to consider other sources and if necessary just go back and buy another pack so I have some backups.

Interesting... I've got a set of Chromes waiting for me back in Denver, as soon as I get home from vacation, I'll be putting them on my USA P-Bass V. Both came in only two days before I left, so I'm anxious to get back and play!

+1 to juststrings.com!

No 100's at juststrings.com - I wound up ordering from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/DAddario-Singl...9109502&sr=8-1

Package on the ad looks wrong, but the item number says CB100 which is exactly what I need.

Weird that Amazon sells these! My E string doesn't have any wraps on the post but it is holding tension and should stay put until my replacement arrives.

Overall I am really liking these. BUT the flats do seem harder to make stretches on the fretting hand because there is no rough anchor for the index finger when you reach with the pinky. I do sound cleaner with these strings, just have to get some more time with them to get used to them. These strings will also let you know when you set the action too low - after my setup my E string had this flat kind of "thud" about it - it was set too low and was vibrating on the next fret. Raising the action a bit fixed that.

Huh. Weird that juststrings doesn't have it. Seems like they have every string under the sun. At least you were able to find one!

Well, Chromes are going to sound brighter than your average flatwound by a fair amount. Also, they will mellow out a bit with time.

I have the lights and don't think they are high tension at all, I would rather have the mediums I think.

Mine are on a P-bass.

You guys are fancy lads.
