I just finished installing a set of chrome flats on my MIM Jazz Deluxe.
I took off some GHS Boomers, strings that I have been a fan of for a long time.
Man, I should have done this a long time ago!
Right now I am a very happy man.
I had to re setup the whole thing but it is totally worth it. The only thing I can say about the sound is "as smooth as melted Butter"!
I'm gonna go play it some more! |

When I switched to flats a couple years ago--I was hooked. It was the sound I always wanted. I think rounds are better for disco and slap, only. |

Everyone has their likes and dislikes.
I still have my "other" bass strung with rounds so I have options, but I haven't even touched it since making the swap on my jazz.

Flats on a J sound nice but flats on a P sound incredible.

Normally being a jazz/rounds guy myself, the higher tension takes a bit of getting used to (especially that .050 G string), but the tone you get is well worth it.
To sum it up (said in my best Samuel L. Jackson voice):
"I got muthaf**kin' FLATS on a muthaf**kin' JAZZ!"

I'm gonna go play it some more! | What gague are you running? I'm thinking either chromes super soft or La Bella deep Talkin' flats, but the low tension has me leaning towards the chromes. Also how do they sound compared to Fender flats or the TI flats?

If nickel rounds are what you were used to playin Chromes would be like mush next to em. Flats are muted to a degree and Chromes are one of the brightist flats on the market.

I'm gonna go play it some more! | I just swapped out the Lo-Riders on my MIM active Deluxe for a nicely broken-in set of Chromes after reading this thread. I might end up liking this arrangement.
