D'addario chromes rough feeling

Are they going to stay like this? I've been playing a few hours and they feel terrible. It must be because they're made of steel instead of nickel, but is there anything I can do about this or will they eventually break in or am I stuck with it?

My chromes don't feel rough at all. It's like I'm rubbing my finger down a stick a buttah.

They scratched up my fretless board, so I'll only use 'em on fretted now.
