I just wanted to mention, that Mark Roldan of DA, took care of my defective Chrome "D" string. The winding at the tuner end of the string, broke off from the core. Got a new one on the way, couldn't happier with my DA strings; +1 customer service! ...........................Btw, the Chromes sound very "meaty" on a Bongo 5

Are you putting the Chromes on an EB bass? If so, the tuners have a really sharp leading edge that seems to destroy flatwound strings. The winding gets cut at the leading edge and then the core just pulls out of the tuner slot. Make sure you give the string plenty of windings.

Thanks for the heads up KB! I'll check into that. Prior to buying a set of chromes for my Bongo, I installed (2x) a used set that I had on my Roscoe Beck 5. They were on/off the RB5 3x.....took me awhile to figure out If I liked them; I do. Hopefully the chromes will stay on till they die out.

I have had problems with Chromes on EBMM basses as well. Slipping, core unraveling, etc.

I now "double wind" the string; feed it into the tuner hole, then through the slot on top of the tuner one extra time, then start it wrapping around the post. Haven't had an issue since.

+1 on D'Addario customer service. They have responded every time to any problems. Mark Roldan has been quick and helpful with advice, new strings, whatever.

Hey Mo!
I needed a different sound for a couple of projects, so I'm currently using DA Pro Steels. I might be putting the Chromes back on soon. This is why I wish I had a second Bongo; One with Chromes and one with whatever brand of round wounds I wanted to try.
