I had posted a thread a wile back complaining about how daddario discontinued their single strings for chromes(and other brands). i use a custom gauge set for a drop c tuning and would have to put together two different sets of strings to get the ones i needed for my fretless. i wasn't about o spend 100 bucks to get the strings i wanted so i called daddario customer service to try and finagle a custom set. The very fine young man that answered the phone (mike) was very apologetic and completely understanding of my dilemma. he did a little research to see if he could help me with my problem and found that they couldn't do a custom set of strings for me. i was a little bummed but understood......
then he hit me with it:
"i'm gonna go ahead and send you the two sets of strings you need to make your set on the house"
i am so in love with D'Aaddario right now i would marry the whole dang company if i could. seriously if you guys don't at least give this company's strings a try you are missing out!
i am was and will be a D'Addario man for life! |

Hopefully he will have made enough from gigging that setup that he can purchase whichever strings he so desires at that point.

I finally tried some Pro Steels and Chromes for my two basses and they're the perfect strings for my playing style/tone and sound. I really like them a lot and it's always a plus to hear that they take care of their customers.
You also can't argue with the price! |

Maybe by the time you need another set, they'll have forgotten that you called and you can call again and they'll send you another set |

Best dang bass string I have ever played. Unfortunately, they stopped making them and they told me they put most of that technology into their XL series strings. That's what I use now, but as good as they are, they really are no match for that old Slowound series. I've tried GHS, DR's and always wind up going back to D'Addario's. No comparison, IMHO. )-(

Ive been reading so many positive things about DR's that Im going to take that plunge. I have a J and a P and also a Dean.....I have no idea what "stock" roundwounds are on them now, they sound decent enough, but I know theres better. |

Every time I decided to try something new I end up disappointed. I did buy a used bass that had a new set of DR red devils which I love, but they are a little too expensive for me to justify buying. I boiled them once to bring them back to life. They still sound good but the red coating is looking like crap down around the pickups.

I received my new string s today. This B string has a tad more space between the windings, still not what i consider rough. It sounds exactly like the other 4, the original B has tighter windings and a tad bit smoother feeling but it didn't articulate like the other strings. Any way, they will get my business in the future. BTW 2 of my other basses have a heavy set and a light set of fender flatwounds and the chromes set has considerably less string tension.

| | | Freebies are always nice, but La Bella customer service >>>>>>>>>>>> D'addario.
La bella offered to make me a custom length low-B in case the stock Super Steps low-B wasn't long enough. D'addario? "Our long scale tapered half-round isn't long enough? Oh well. We're just too big to make you a super long scale so you can clear the nut. Unless you want to create an account with us and order 134 of them."
Y'know, I'm almost temped to call them back and ask, "Hey, since you do make super long scale tapered nickel roundwound singles, can't you just grind a few for me?" (I'm hoping the TI flats work out so I can move on. )
EDIT: I just realized their half-rounds are nickel, while their roundwounds are nickel plated steel. So much for that idea.
