I have recently switched and bought some EXL220's however, same thing but .040-.095. Haven't put them on my bass yet but perhaps I can see if there's any difference in tone and record clips of it if anyone is interested. |

Please make some clips with the new strings when you get the chance. |

Switching from flats, they're a nice change from the higher tensioned Chromes. I really was leaning to the 160's, but their tensions were identical to the Chromes I already had on, so I went lighter.
I bought them based on a thread here a few weeks ago asking about Rounds for a Precision, and there was a lot of recommendations for the 170's, so I figured I'd give them a try. Still liking them a lot after two weeks, but curious to see how long they'll last before going dead.

I'm really hard on my strings and I sweat a lot because I rock so hard so my strings don't ever last long, but at that price I can't complain.
I'll see if I can find the time to do clips of the 220's to compare soon. Possibly on thursday I could do that. |

I used to play GHS strings, but that was primarily because Larry Graham was playing them and I used to be a real Larry Graham wannabe. |

The Nordy's emphasize the low end more than the traditional upper mid-range. The XL170's sounded good, but I missed a bit of the upper mids. The 220's had the upper mids, but lost a little of the bottom heft.....more like a traditional 'J' sound. I was surprised at the difference....at least on my bass it was really noticeable. Keep in mind my sound started out a little non-traditional. I had to adjust the action and re-intonate, though.........
