Hi,

Can someone tell me what silk color the nickel plated 55-110 (EXL230) and Stainless 55-110 (EPS230) strings are?

Thank you!

The only d'addario strings with silk (if i'm not mistaken) are the Chromes which are blue.

Correct. No silks on those strings.

Thanks for the answers! Does anyone know why they'd quash the silk? I mean...doesn't it help them promote their product? I know many flatwound freaks (me included) can identify strings just by the silk.

I know DR goes nekkid too.

It's kind of like Nissan not wanting to put the "Nissan" emblem on their new cars.

I prefer the strings without silk. They get unwound, which gets in the way when switching strings (I do that).

Yes the silk can get 'fuzzy' if you leave strings on for a while.

The biggest reason at the time was to hold down costs. With the advent of Hex Cores for strings, there technically isn't a reason for the silking. It used to be the primary means by which you held the outer wraps in place. The silking is soaked in a glue like material which would bind it to the string. We still use silk with our Upright Bass strings long with our other violin family products.

We basically avoided a price increase at the time by removing the silk.
