Coloured ball ends? If someone was to fake it, i'd probably check that. But if it sounded good, who cares?

Why would anyone fake a string? I don't get it.

Here's a PDF copy of a Flier from D'addario about counterfeit strings...
http://www.daddario.com/upload/DABR_...wRes_12587.pdf

I guess it's big enough of a problem they came out with something like that.

Fake Asian strings are one reason Ernie Ball recently changed their packaging. Must be some money in it...

I stand corrected . . . I guess buying from a reputable dealer. Seeing a guy selling 20 packs of strings on ebay for $40 is probably gonna be bogus.

There are loads of fake Shure SM57's on ebay. I guess it's the same with strings.

it doesn't sound good for long.
Actually, sbd told me that but I've never know the D'addarios I've bought is fake or not :d
But about years ago, my friend booked so many D'addario Classical String and when they arrived, he told me that they were fake, and sound like sh*t
That's the Classical Strings, sth like that may happened to the Bass string.

Lightbulb

I have heard about this. I go through the XL's fast, change them about every two weeks on my main Jazz. I have not come across any "fake" D'Addario strings yet,but I buy from the big stores....Sam Ash and Guitar Center. Yea,I'm sure there must be some money in it if they are counterfeiting strings

Interesting- I wonder if the old strings that were sold for awhile as Hartke strings were related. They had the same colored ball ends as D'addario, but came in clear plastic sleeves and often no brand labeling. I had heard some rumors that they were D'addario "seconds", but that always seemed a little weird to me...I actually bought them for a little while because they were super cheap and sounded more or less the same to me as XLs, but XLs were never my string of choice anyway...

Interesting, this seems to be rather old, but I just heard about this on the News today!
Chinese knock-offs being sold for a lot less online. D'addario is trying to fight this really hard, even got out Senator involved

This is the first I hear of this. Good to know.

My suggestion would be to buy from a reputable dealer as well. If the price is too good to be true, it probably is!

maybe we should make this a "sticky" since a LOT of TB-ers use D'Addario strings, myself included....

Fake string, gee, the fake artists are now operating with really tiny profit margins...
