i put these on my p bass a few weeks ago. they were a bit stiff at first...they feel somewhere between flats and rounds (obviously). after some breaking in, they feel GREAT. i've gone from boomers to dr's to chromes to half rounds. they'll be on my bass for a long time. super mellow, nice thud, just enough presense

i tried them a long time ago and decided that i hate them, but i got a wild hair and decided to try them on my turser beatle bass copy a few months ago. i don't know...i don't hate them as much now, but i don't like the rough/smooth thing they've got going. the edges aren't so sharp they'd cut you, but they do bug me. i like the sound, but not too into the feel.

but if you really want to know about a set of strings, there's really only one way...pony up the dough and try them out.

I am sold on them. Believe or not, I had a set of them last over 20 years and they sounded good the whole time. I would always wipe them down but that's it. I never had them develop a bad tone-always sweet. I finally changed them just "cuz", but did not really have to. Maybe I just had an anomaly, similar to the 1-in-a-million light bulb that lasts 70 years. (Insert Shrug icon).

I had them on all my basses at one time. Finally my Cort (Which has had them the longest) started to sound a little dead. I like them because they have some qualities of both the flat (a smoother feel) and the round (some brightness). Half rounds work well sound-wise for the kind of music I play, but I've been moving back towards rounds lately.

I've used several different half-rounds (D'addario, GHS, SIT, etc.). I hated all of them because to me those strings gave me the worst of rounds and flats.

First post here!

I've been using them on my Jaguar Bass for a little over two weeks and I like them a lot better than the roundwounds I was using (alas, I haven't tried any flatwounds yet). They feel a bit rough on your fingers at the beginning but they smooth out in a matter of days. Either that or I got used to them by now.

I'm not going back to roundwounds for a while

I'm using them on my Jag bass too. Love them. The GHS boomers I was using before were buzzy. I mostly play with a pick and these cut down on the pick noise while delivering a nice, thick tone.

not to hijack but with halfrounds do you still get the string noise you get with rounds sliding your hands up and down the neck?

I suppose it depends on technique but I still get a bit of finger noise with halfrounds. It's hardly noticeable and a lot less than with roundwounds, though.

yeah Ive noticed some rounds are way more sound than others, I put some sunbeams on my bass for about 30 minutes and couldn't take the amount of finger noise I was getting sliding up the neck. I liked the tone good enough, but way too much noise for me, I guess I just got spoiled with flats. trying to find a happy medium, no finger noise but a good hardrock/metal sound.

I used them when the first came out around 1976, and used them off an on until about 1982. I finally decided that for me, I'd rather have flats for what they do, and rounds for what THEY do. All the modified rounds I've tried over the decades (D'Addario in the original nickel as well as the stainless ones, GHS Brite-Flats, and Dean Markley Groud-Roundwounds) have the same issue ultimately- they combine what I find to be the worst of both worlds, not the best.

Your mileage may vary... And, BTW, I liked the GHS Brite-Flats better than the either the D'Addario or the DM, and I'm a huge fan of D'Addario strings.

I have had a set on my fretless P since 1981 or 1982.
I consider them the all around best sounding string.
Not much mwah, which I do not favor.
No string noise.

They are a bit stiff, and IIRC, were "tacky" for a month or two.

Try a set; I have gotten a lot of service out of them.
