I think I've had 2 sets with a problem out of literally hundreds of sets I've purchased over the years. |

A) Their 'long scale' strings are only wound to 36.25" (the shortest in the industry). Why can't they move up to at least 37" like everybody else?
B) They won't sell super long scales in singles?!?!
C) They won't make a .135 nickel, but make 3 flavors of .145
A would not matter if B would be taken care of.
I'm trying to like D'Addario because I do think they sound great, but man they are making it hard for me to like them. Seems like everything I need, they don't have. |

I used XL Reds on my P-bass, back in the 80's, before the world's copper market went out of whack, and loved the J-like tone that they gave me, but they did get dull, after about a month or 2. I've used XL-170's on the majority of my basses, since the beginning of my heavy gigging phase, in 2009, and love how they settle in, and still sound great. I've been mostly a passive J-type guy, but also enjoy how they sound on my active Peavey Millenium BXP AC4 (on which they come stock, and were strung through the body; no taper-before-the-nut issue). I can watch the sales, and get a twin pack for a little more than a twenty, and keep a few new sets in reserve, along with a few sets that get rotated on/off the basses most used for gigs. They even boil well, rejuvenating nicely. Of course, I let them dry out in the Arizona summer sun, to minimize the chances of rust.
As always YMMV.
Now, if they would just make a set of Chromes for the Kala U-bass...

Many companies are 36.5" while fewer are 37" or 37.25"... On my visit to D'Addario I discussed this with them actually. We will see if anything comes of it. They are willing to listen!
B) They won't sell super long scales in singles?!?! They are in the process of making every string they make available as singles. Including Super Long Scales (38" windings)...
C) They won't make a .135 nickel, but make 3 flavors of .145 I will mention the availability of .135's to them... | |

Not selling long scale singles really baffles me! I know the other two issues would be changes in production..but not selling strings they already make?
Also I see they do offer .135's, but not in super long scale. I was thinking they didn't offer a .135 at all...in fact I'm not sure WHAT I was thinking there. Sorry.

The tension is a bit high but you'll get used after a while. The tone is thick and clean (playing classic rock, pop-rock), I'm really enjoying them more than the old strings - Earnie Ball regular slinky.

They do have .135 in both Non and Tapered but only for Long Scale (36.25" Windings)... .130/.130T in Super Long is available though...
I mentioned about the Super Long .135/.135T possibility for you... |

| | | | I used to play D'addarios, but I recently switched to GHS Boomers. D'ads are great strings, but the Boomers are little bit deeper and have more prominent low-mids, which is what I was after. |

My Lakie 55-02 is currently wearing Dean Markley Blue Steels. I'm pleasantly surprised with them. They sound pretty dang good, but when they die I'm going to try Prosteels. Haven't missed yet with D'Ad.

| | | | I've chosen D'Addario's as my brand of choice. I like the colorful little bits they put on the end--seriously though, I like their sound and the way they cover all of the bases with types, gauges, and lengths. Recently I bought a new bass with another brand and was able to hear the difference between two virtually the same bases with different strings. The original strings are coming off and the D's are going on. |
