I'm building a long-scale (planned at 36 inch, but i might go a little lower so i can reach the low frets), and was convinced by my teacher (who's helping me with the build) that I should go get some long-scale strings to make sure that they were easy to find.
so, i went to my local (not GC) store, and asked if they had long scale strings. The guy there was obviously a guitarist, and didn't know that strings even came in lengths until he pulled out his D'addario catalog, and pointed to the "scale" column. so, he pulled a packet marked "long" off the wall, and said they should do it. so, i got home, opened the packet, and the untapered length of the string was 36.5 inches. now, the bridge I have is two inches long, with the saddles full foreward. I'm wondering if by cheating in a bunch of little ways (moving the bridge forward a quarter inch, as there's plenty of adjustment room in the saddles, etc.) I could get away with a 35 inch scale.
so, the mini-rant condensed, do D'addario "long" (I have a nickel, 45-65-85-105 set) strings fit 35 inch scale with a Badass bridge? |

I don't know why they call it long scale though. My D'Addario Chromes are long scales and they fit perfectly (with less than an inch of room after the nut) on my fretless 34" Fender Jazz which has a BadAssII on it.

Not easy to find the extra long gauge strings and they up the price $10.00 for the extra 1/4 inch I need.
I have tryed to contact D'addario several times via their tech support on their web site. They guarentee responces with in 48 hours. This is a blatent lie. They are just collecting names for their data base to send you advertisements. Too bad cause I love those strings.
In the world of modern bass guitars 36" should be considered Long scale, not 34" IMO
I switched to Webstrings.com. They are not quite as spongy as D'addarios, but they are OK and half the price.
I own many basses and I like having new strings on great sounding basses.

They make a Super Long set 100, but I want a 105 gague.

Shaved the silk on the E so that I could have metal string contact at the nut rather than have the silk covered string laying in the nut. Long scale D'addario Chromes 105-50's. I love the strings so you do what ya gotta do........

I just ordered some to go on my G&L L1505. The regular ones tapered about 1/2 inch before the nut when strung through body.
