D'Addario Long vs. Super Long

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking at a set of D'Addario Chromes Flatwounds for my Squier Affinity Jazz Bass V. I'm not sure which to get, the long or super long. The headstock on my Jazz, like most others, is 5-in-line tuners. There is a $5 difference (super long =$40 long =$35) but that's not really a problem. I just want them to fit!! Thanks for the help!!

D'addario has a fit guide on their web site that tells you how to measure your string length to determine the correct version of their strings to get. Generally speaking, the Longs will fit on 34" scale basses strung through the bridge. If you have a need to string a 34" scale bass through the body (like the Tele-bass reissues) you would need the X-Long. Check the guide to be sure for your needs...

Flatwounds + Super Long Scale + bass that doesn't need the extra length = B and E strings that could break during installation. Go with Long Scale - your Jazz Bass will thank you.

Why would you want to? This is good info for someone later on down the line, provided they do a search for it...

I string my Squier Affinity V jazz basses with D'Addario Long Scales (only steel rounds in my case) - they are the length you need.
