Daddario Medium XL questions

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello folks, I was wondering if anyone has had trouble getting a good slap bass tone form their Dadarrio XL Medium guage strings. I just bought a Fender American Hot Rod precision with P and J pickups and the Dadarrio XL mediums seem to sound crappy when i slap them. Should I use a lighter guage string than the XL's in 50-105 medium gauge? These strings just dont seem to sound very good for slap bass playing. Im thinkin the Rotosound jazz bass or swing bass set would sound way better for funk stuff on this bass. Your thought and opinions are much appreciaited.

I take it the strings are new? I have always used D'Addario med-lights ( I think that's what they're called) with the guages being 45-65-80-100-130 and have always gotten great finger and slap tones. I've never used mediums so I can't comment on whether or not that is affecting the sound. You may just need to try a few different types of strings to find what you like.
