D'Addario new for 2013 thread!

D'Addario just sent out a press release so I thought I would share it with TalkBass!

In 2013 they will be releasing XL Nickel Balanced Tension Bass String Sets!

So far that is the only firm information I have. No information on gauges etc YET.

Will post more information as it becomes available!

They do read internet forum posts. Cool! I've been suggesting balanced XL sets for a while and I'm putting my money where my mouth is right now with a 105-80-60-45 set on my P-Bass.

Can't wait to see the gauges!

I don't know if my set is balanced, but I know it's the best sounding and feeling combo I tried. I just bought a bunch of singles from Jason at BSO and spent about a week testing on my Spector NS-2J. Magic happened when I hit upon 42-55-75-105 with XL's.

Yeah that's the one that feels the best to me too even with a lighter 40 in the G. 105-80-60-45 isn't bad either. Just more tense.

This is very cool! I've been looking at getting back into rounds, and, as far as rounds go, D'Addario Nickels are my favorite. Very cool!

Does anyone think these might cut into sales of Circle K strings? Or is there a large enough market that both can exist harmoniously? Just thought of it, thought I'd ask.

Not until D'Addario starts making strings bigger than .145, all tapered, all super long, and all available as singles.

Newb
Can someone please explain what exactly a balanced tension set means? I suspect it means that tension is the same in each string? Is this the case and why is this good?

Awesome, they're half way there LOL. I like the tension to get progressively higher as you go from the "G" down to the "E". I'm running 40/55/75/105 right now on my short scales.

Will these be available in short scale? Any word on them selling short scale singles again? I had to switch to GHS Bass Boomers because they do sell singles.

Balanced tension XLs! Great news!

I wonder if they'll wreak havoc on old necks used to unbalanced tension for 30+ years?

There is no "official" announcement but starting in 2013 they will be making all of the strings they manufacturer available as singles as well as some new ones not currently available in sets.

This means, single Chromes, single Short Scale, single Half-Rounds, Singles Singles Singles!

Yes GHS does sell singles for their Short Scales, but really the only string you need to get in a short is the E string.
