I had never known about the existence of tapered strings, made by them.
Has anyone played with a, say .130 B string, tapered string? Does it really make a difference, compared to their own untapered identical string? .............
Thanks.

D'Addario makes tapered strings as small as .125T and up to .145T
The main difference is going to be with the installation of the string. Some hardware does not allow for larger diameter strings to fit. The main thing you will notice is the installation is cleaner and a "witness point" is more easily achieved as the string is more flexible going over the bridge saddle.
Tone should be the same however you will have some people say that the taper adds unwanted harmonic overtones, but this is more found with strings with too long of a taper. (there are only a couple of brands that have long tapers, and if you have an instrument with a very short ball to saddle length the taper length is basically extended as well). Playability should be the same and you will not notice much difference however some will say a tapered string vibrates with less restriction than a non-tapered. |

I was going to PM you, but thought others might benefit from the answer: do you know if the ones you currently have listed here will be long enough to string through body on a 34in scale (MIA P Bass). thanks http://www.bassstringsonline.com/DAd...t-_p_1347.html

These will fit a thru body fender P or J |

If they're definitely long enough now, unlike previously when it was a crapshoot whether they'd work or not, I'm going to look into getting a set for my ABZ5.

At the moment it is safe to say the Extra Longs are 38" Ball to Taper (taper by tuning posts that is). I will check on this later today though... Talking with them about string winding lengths in general right now.
Edited to add: Super Longs are not changing so they will remain 38" from Ball End to Taper.

| | Registered User | | | | | I just got a Balanced Tension set today from BassStringsOnline (thanks, Jason!), and WOW, the best strings I've ever played. Just amazing. I've been playing D'Addario XL 220 (.040 .060 .075 .095) and got the XL220BT (.040 .055 .070 .095) and my bass feels like a better, more expensive instrument. I had no idea that a set of strings could make such difference and I've tried a lot of different strings, over my 35 years of playing, different brands and gauges, but these are special! And relatively inexpensive at that. Awesome.

I love that they have the BT's now more than ever hearing this from another player who gravitates towards the XL220 sets. Now I know that XL220BT will be for me.

At first they felt kind of too light tension wise for me, but now I'm feeling the string to string benefit. As advertised, slap, pop, & tap techniques shine as it seems to be easier to nail.
Anyone check out the next tension level up?:
