So I just realized that D'Addario has a "marlboro miles" type deal. Anyone cash in yet?

No, but I have far more than I need.

XD

I should actually send some in and snag one of those beanies... and then keep saving for a stool, heh.

I have about a 83 points. Nothing they have seems decent to me. Plus you have to pay for shipping for the whole box. (RIPOFF) Quit using these strings so its not even worth it

D'Addario should stop the gimmick, and use the extra money to pay a good Quality Manager, and some equipment upgrades.... These are the most inconsistant strings out there. I've measured gauges on every set of strings I've owned for that last 20 some odd years...... D'Addario is hands down, the worst string for dimensional consistancy out there.

Bugger points off your friends who use Evans drum heads, Rico reeds, or Planet Waves gear.

I like the Rico mugs, that's about all.

I've been using them for 20+ years. They have always performed well for me, never a problem. I never noticed anything that would lead me to believe the gauge was off, so, I never had a compelling reason to measure them. Now once in a while, I need to do a truss rod adjustment, but it's a seasonal thing, nothing related to new strings that might have changed the neck tension.

If you don't mind me asking, why would you measure EVERY set you bought over the last 20 years??? Please don't take this as an insult, but this seems like a very unusual thing to do. In all years I've played and all the people I've played with, I've never had another musician tell me that they felt something was wrong with their string gauge and they needed to check it.

Did each set give you some indication that something was wrong that warranted checking the gauge? And how inconsistent are they? Are we talking a .040 string that measures .0402 or are we talking way off like the wrong string put in the set such as a .040 measuring .045?

Back on topic... I've had a bunch of points over the years. I check once in a while, but never found anything I wanted. Seems like a gimmick. And IIRC the stool is no longer available.

I find this is a very funny thread because I didn't even know there was such a thing as d'addario points, and they are the only strings I buy. My bandmates even own a music store which only sells d'addario accessories and strings!

Cashed some in for 2 pint glasses. Switched to DR's but still have some points laying around. Maybe enough for a T.

IIRC, the 'gimmick' is about recylcing the packages. I'm not a tree hugger by any means but I suppose every little bit helps.

Of course not sure what happens with the X tons of strings that we throw away every time we change our strings.

I don't think you can recycle those.

Re: QA, I only went through 15 or so sets (Nickel and ProSteels). Only had 1 set that was bad. The E string had a bad wind which created a 'bump'. It was up in the higher frets so it didn't bother me too much. Still used it through it's normal life expectency.

First, I've been cashing in D'Addario Players' Points for decades. I've gotten a whole set of Pint glasses, the wooden stools, more T-shirts than I know, gig bags, etc.

Second, they're the most consistent strings I've ever used. I used to manage a gutiar store and we put on tons of strings. D'Addarios were the ones that had the fewest strings dead out of the package, the fewest ones that didn't intonate easily, and the fewest problems over all. Plus they had the best customer service (well, GHS CS was always excellent too, but D'Addario always responded more quickly).

I've got a stool and binoculars, and probably had a few t-shirts. I have 60 or so point built up, but don't know what I want next.

Well, I now have 33 points from trying to change one set of strings.....

But so far so good, and I think I am pretty much sticking with D'Addario for the most part. I love the half rounds and can't wait to try the chromes. The points are a nice touch too as well as the 10% Talk Bass discount from The Perfect Bass! Save money buying them, good strings, awesome customer service from the manufacturer and free stuff on the back end? What's not to love?

I work at a music shop and repair center.

I keep every package of restrings that I do, every time I re head a drum i keep those packages. Rico packages from reeds we sell individually, basically everything from their corporation. I have been doing this for the past five years

I now have two 20 lb crates full of these points, last month me and another guy spent some time going through them, rough count puts us over 1250 players points....

Im starting to wonder how much points I need to buy the company
