Yay or Nay? I'm thinking of getting a set... Obviously, but don't really have the opportunity to try before I buy... So decided to ask here
Thanks in advance!

Only things I use, they stay bright forever and I can drop them down to C without any floppiness.

YAY
I've had mine on my bass since early March and it is still nowhere dead. I dunno if d'addaro uses some kind of Voodoo on them, but they feel and sound great and stay sparkly forever. One thing is that I've noticed weaker harmonics but it might just be this particular bass. I love how it feels when I have it drop D.

Absolutely the worst strings I've ever used. They are all low boom and high end clank, with absolutely no midrange. FiElDy in a box.

I like them on my Jazz Bass, particularly when using a medium-light pick.

Not recommended for low&slow soul however.

I used some old ones to file down the slots of a brass nut I installed on my MIM Jazz. That should tell you something about their texture....

They're really good for just practicing though. They build calluses on your fingertips like no other string, and if you can get a good tone out of these, you'll have flat out amazing tone when you switch to something, anything else.

I have used these ProSteels before and after three days noticed grooves in my frets. I would go with DR's next time I need to use steel strings !

I use them. I like the tone, feel, longevity, and price. I buy the double packs. Great deal.

I'm not as picky as some players though. I tend to like any stainless steel roundwound as long as they are new.

I don't like the feel of them either. To me, the old D'Addario Slow Wounds were the best.

I just switched from Rotosounds to Pro Steels - lovin' 'em so far. I'll have to see how long they last, but so far, so good!

You're a a woman or whatever. But seriously, I have them on a couple of my basses. I think of them as my attack dogs. If I looking for a real real aggressive sound, I go to the Ric or the T-40 with Pro-Steels. That combination bites like a Killer Whale on a baby seal.

I prefer the nickle XL-170's. I could never get along with the prosteels.

I've used pro steels for about 4 years almost exclusively, and can't say I found them that bad!actualy, much better than most strings I've come across out there.then came DR!
although, if you want bang for the buck, brightness and better consistency, I sometimes go with the EB Hybrid Slinkys!

I'm enjoying them. I just switched over after years of using Rotos (and being let down too many times by Rotosound's quality and/or consistency). I put a set of ProSteels on my fretless last Tuesday, and they're still bright and lively after a good week of playing. Very consistent string-to-string volume and tone. No dead strings right out of the package - Rotosound, I'm looking at you! I may be in love

Are they rough on your fingers? Yep. But I'm used to it (mostly). They have the springy steel roundwound tone I want, and I'll deal with the roughness.

Used to use prosteels a lot. Great strings, last for ages.

Imo you have to use prosteels for at least a month or two before they wear in properly. Then the high and low end calms down a bit and you get a nice midrange out of them

But yes, before... very recessed mid-range...

Terrible strings. Worst strings I have ever tried.
Clanky, sticky, terrible. I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.

I would string my bass with the Hartkes 10 times over before enduring Prosteels again.
