hey guys i'm in that phase of trying out different strings to find which one is the right one for me. i've always been an ernie ball guy for the whole 2 years i've been playing. i'm thinking of trying 45-105 on one of my stingrays. do i have to use the medium scale or the long scale? and perhaps maybe i can get some people's opinions on these strings?

Long Scale.

Input on strings is like asking people 'where should I eat'. It's all dependent on taste and preference.

Well, if you have been using EB...anything is going to seem like an improvement, but D'addarios would not be my choice either... Get yourself some quality strings!

Hi There,
The D'addarios will have a more balanced sound than the Eb Slinkies. Less "zingy" if that makes sense?. The D'ads will also have a slightly smoother feel. I happen to like both strings actually. If you are going to move up to a 45-105 set I would recommend using the D'addario 45-100 (EXL 170 Pink) set instead and the 45-105(Hybrid) Slinky's . I have found that the D'ads have higher tension. Hope this helps!
Take Care,
Brent

I would agree with the previous post. I think you would be happy with the tone from the EXL's. I have loved them on just about every bass i have had, one being a music man style.

agreed.

If you own a fast car, you don't but cheap tires on it.

The MM's I've owned, I've used either Rotos or DRs.

I've used RotoSound RS77LD strings (flats) very successfully on both my fretted and fretless Sting Rays.

I'm a Roto devotee having used them pretty much exclusively on all my basses for many years.

Get some DR's and you can stop looking and concentrate on playing

Ugh...everyone's different but those strings come out of the package sounding used. The choice is yours but when being cheap, go with GHS Boomers when you feel like spending money go with Elixirs. Just my two cents...good luck

I have been using the EXL170-6 set for about 10 years on a multitude of basses; Warwick Corvette Proline 6, Yamaha RBX-6jm and TRB6P, an OLP Stingray 5 string, and a Zon Legacy Elite Six. Every time I open a package I know exactly what to expect and get that every single time. Just because a string is affordable does not make it crap. I have tried DR's, Fodera's, Ken Smith's, Dean Markley, GHS, and Rotosound 66's. Some I liked, but for the price the switch would not be worth it, and a lot of them were a severe let down for the money paid. If you like nickel strings, they are pretty hard to beat.
