D'Addario Short Scale Tape Wound vs La Bella Short Scale Tape Wound strings

Sign in to disble this ad
Does anyone have any opinions on which of these strings would be best for my Cort 30" Scale Acoustic Bass Guitar?

The D'Addario's are cheaper and a lighter gauge .050-.105
and the La Bella's are 60-115.

Should I be concerned with the La Bella's fitting in the nut slots?
Will the D'Addario's fit the nut slot better AND sound as good?

I'm going for an upright tone for my recordings. I have heard La Bellas on Rob Allen bass and even with the piezo pickups recording direct they sound VERY upright.

I'm planning of recording the bass with a mic and also using the DI and mixing them. I appreciate any input.

does anyone know if the D'Addario strings will fit the nut slots better? I'm wondering if they will also fit through my bridge better too. The La Bella's don't fit through the holes in my bridge.

I can't speak to the LaBellas (though they sure have the reputation of being top notch) but I really dig my rotosound trubass 88's and I hear a real acoustic sound on my JazzV with them.

The Rotosounds are commonly thought of as the moste "woody" tape wounds. The main disadvantage of them is that they are really inflexible, specialy the E string. This can give some intonation problems at the higher frets. This problem is much worse with a short scale (been there myself, on my Spike, couln't adjust the saddles enough). The la Bella's, although allmost the same gauge, are much more flexible, and sound very good too. (personally, I even like them better)
Yes, you will have to modify the nut, but what the heck, a new nut will set you back only $ 10,- or so.

I have no experience with the d'Addario's.
