Daddario Single Strings

I purchased some single Daddario Nickelplated Roundwounds (XLB045, XLB065, XLB090, XLB135T) for my equalish-tension tuning and I noticed that only the XLB090 String has a color-coded (red) ball end. The others have the same brass ball end.

All strings came in separate Daddario cardboard covers, that share the same design(however only the cardboard cover of the XLB090 string was wrapped in plastic)and the XLB090 string doesn't sound off. To my surprise it sounds like the 'higher' version of the XLB135T string, instead of the 'lower' version of the XLB065 string, if you know what I mean. The result is the low B string doesn't sound out of place.
So it would be fine with me if there was just a weird packaging mistake.

But did I maybe purchase some old or new Daddario strings, that don't have color coded ballends?

I just bought 75-55-40-28 XL singles. No plastic and brass balls on all.

Peace,
S

I buy a lot of XLB singles for my experiments, I've just noticed a mix of coloured and brass ball ends. Nothing to worry about I'm sure.

Looking at your gauges ... looks like you're tuned in drop B ...

The D'Addarios XL's that come is a set have environmental packaging where they are all in the same plastic bag. The ball ends are color coded to tell you which is compared to the key on the outside of the package. I have had great luck with these strings. They play great and last a long time. The odd thing I've noticed is that they pull dirt out of the air and turn my fingers black at outdoor gigs or when there is a lot of fog for the light show. I never noticed this with stainless steel strings.

I'm tuned in BFBF to be precise. That said, I'm amazed how well this tuning goes with most standard (5String) sets. With standard tuning, the tension would be quite uneven.

Oh wow! Really good to see a tritone tuning, makes a lot of sense to me. I like to tune in fifths, I've only tried tritones briefly.
