Just got a set after not playing tape wounds for about twenty years or so. I don't know what brand I played last but I imagine LaBella.

My question is this: these feel like flatwound...the nylon feels painted on it feels so thin; are the Fender tape wounds closer to these or to the LaBellas?

Your help is appreciated.

They sound like (to me) really mellow D'addario flats. The issue I was hoping to get input on is how the nylon on these seems more like a coating...not unlike DR neons. It seems like it will easily chip off.

I just remember the last set of tapewounds I had being more plastic-y feeling. These old strings felt and sounded like some of the nylon wound double bass strings I've tried like Eurosonics.

Are they really tapewounds, or are they coated rounds? DR, for example, makes Black Beauties, which are roundwound strings with a super thin coating on them to make them last longer.

If you're sure that's not it, Fender tapewounds are more bumpy--that is, you can feel the rounds under the tape better than the other brands. La Bella, Rotosound, GHS, etc. are really really smooth.

They are rounds covered in a nylon wrapping. It's a little thicker and has a different texture than a last-longer-coat. They sound like rounds that have been played in, and are supposedly going to last about as long as flats.

I've been using them for about a month and a half now; no regrets or complaints!
