I'm thinking about ordering a 36"-33" scale fanned 7 string tuned B (or low A)EADGCF. I'd probably get a super long for the B and E, but probably fine using regular strings from then on.

I was thinking 130, 105, 85, 65, 45, 35, 25
Any opinions??

Ya, those things last me maybe two practices , or one gig. Not worth installing, for me anyway.

on a fanned scale, I'd drop the gauge a bit on the longer strings...

something like 125 or 120 for the B; 100 for the E; and maybe even 80 for the D...

you're probably right about the lengths...

I've found the D'Addario nickel string to last longer than other brands nickel rounds (I find them similar to EB Slinkies, but longer lasting)

Is there a brand of Nickel Round Wound bass strings that do last you longer than 2 practices / 1 gig?

Do you sweat pure acid or something?

Do you take your strings off and soak them in BBQ sauce when you are not playing?

I'm just trying to get my head around how D'Addario strings die so quickly for you, I'm sure that many many other people have had different experiences.

I've been using D'Addario XL's for a few years now and really like them. I prefer the D'Addario Slowwounds, but they discontinued them. They're bright for a week or two then they settle into their tone really nicely. Not too bright but but a crispness.

Of all the strings I've tried when getting a good string tone, The XL's came out on top, and they are inexpensive too.

I prefer dull strings so my last set of XL's have been on my Fender Jazz for about a year. They sound very similar to TI Flats but are more focused with a live band mix.

I'm also wondering why they die so quickly for you. I've tried a few brands of strings over the years and found that XLs are among the longest lasting. And I have serious "acid hands".

If you want extreme durability in a nickel roundwound, try some DR Sunbeams. Those things will outlive cockroaches.

Gotcha. Thanks!!!

This is looking like my best option. Luckily they make a 120, 125, 130, and 135! I'll mostly flip between A and B, too.

I've been using Ernie Ball and SIT for many years, perhaps I might consolidate to one brand for everything. I dig EB, but I need something longer and there aren't many choices for the upper register.
