I just put a pair of D'addario 45-105's on my p bass and it sounds so nice.

I'm thinking of putting Pro Steels next,

Post here if you use D'addario and what kind.

I'm a big D'Addario user. I have them on more than 10 of my basses. I prefer Nickel Round Wound .045/.065/.085/.105 soft top-regular bottom long scale EXL165. Side note. Several years ago I discovered a small guitar shop in Myrtle Beach, SC and befriended the owner. On several occasions he talked about "his" strings and how good they were. I eventually tried some, and they have become my favorite now. He won't reveal who makes them, but they cost me only about $11! I find them to be exactly like the D'Addarios but they don't have that nasty habit of getting rusty like the D's do.

D'Addario Phosphor/Bronze on an accoustic 'cause they're the only thing around here.

I can't find anything that works like the D's. I have a couple huindred dollars worth of "tried" string sets and always return to ; Half round .110's on my fours and Half round .130's on my 5. I use Chrome flats on my Turser Viola, and keep a set of round .100's around for what? I'm always open to try new stuff but I stay with what works for me. PS? I also run DR's and Rotosounds on some of my other basses, but the D's are on my first call stuff.

I use the EXL-220's on my 4 strings, and the EXL-170's on my 1/2 step tuned bass. I love the Nickelwound strings when they're about 2-3 days old. I have never had any problems with them and have used them for many years. Not one has ever broken on me and I give them a serious workout!

I've been using EXL-170s for about 15 years, and can't be happier with the consistency that I've experienced. That being said, I'm currently looking for something a little bit different on a couple of my basses. Let us know what you think of the steels when you move to them, they're one of the sets I'm of course planning to try on my 44-02 (currently strung w/ unknown steels that I really dig).

Chromes .45-.105 Flats on my Ibanez GSR200 and Phosphor Bronze .45-.100 on my Fender BG-31 ABG. In the past, I had some EXL's I think (on the Ibanez). My next set will probably be some D'Addario Rounds for the Ibanez. I love the Chromes but miss a little treble.

EHR71 halfround nickels for my solid-body basses. I used to use the SHR71 stainless ones (discontinued); still have 'em on the Warwick, Buzz, and Foundation.

How do those compare to the EXL220's as far as brightness, softness, and low tension goes?

Down to one bass at the moment, it's a Carvin AC40 strung with LaBella Nylon Tapes.

My trusty Yamaha RBX170 (just sold on Ebay), I kept strung with D'Addario XL-170 45-65-80-100...great strings...reliable inexpensive and long-lasting...above all, I really dug the tone
